Amazon CEO, Jeff Bezos and his wife MacKenzie Bezos, have announced their intention to divorce, according to a joint statement released on Wednesday by the couple.
The billionaire Jeff Bezos, 54, who is the richest person in the world with a net worth of almost 150 billion dollars has been married to his 48-year old novelist wife MacKenzie for 25 years. The decision to divorce followed after years of attempts by the couple to find a solution to their differences.
“As our family and close friends know, after a long period of loving exploration and trial separation, we have decided to divorce and continue our shared lives as friends.
“If we had known we would separate after 25 years, we would do it all again,” the statement read.
Jeff Bezos started the e-commerce colossus Amazon in his garage in Seattle, the USA in 1994, and decided to quit his job at a hedge fund to concentrate fully in his online book company. Amazingly, Amazon gradually grew to become one of the largest online selling companies. Apart from Amazon, Jeff Bezos, who bought The Washington Post in 2013 for $250 million, equally started an aerospace company, Blue Origin, which is meant to carry passengers to space. According to business analysts, Blue Origin could become a force to reckon with in the aerospace industry. The Bezos are equally busy with philanthropy. In 2018 they pumped a mouth-watering $2 billion into the Bezos Day One Fund, aimed at helping homeless families and promoting Montessori-inspired education in the U.S.
