It has, indeed, become a reality that Ajax captain, Matthijs de Ligt, will be playing for Juventus for next season. This has been confirmed with the arrival of the 19-year-old Dutch sensation on Tuesday night in Turin, where he is expected to complete his 70 million euro move to the Italian giants Juventus.
The Dutch football star who became a hot cake of late, following his impressive defensive skill, and the ability to score from a header, was being chased after by many reputable clubs in Europe before he eventually zeroed his choice to Juventus. The Ligt’s football skill did not only help his club Ajax win the Dutch league, but the youngest captain in Ajax’s history also played a vital role in the Ajax extraordinary Champions League achievement, which led the Amsterdam club to the semi-finals of the arguably the most prestigious club football tournament in the world
Despite interests from PSG, Barcelona, Liverpool, Manchester United, amongst other big clubs, it became clear that Juventus eventually won the transfer war, after Barcelona failed to meet de Ligt’s conditions.
While in Turin, de Ligt is expected to undergo medical examinations on Wednesday, before being officially presented to the public as a Juventus’ player.
No doubt, with de Ligt at Juventus, the Italian powerhouse will be gunning for the Champions League Cup, which they narrowly missed, despite the presence of Cristiano Ronaldo. All eyes – and pressure – will be on Juventus, next season.
Other clubs like Real Madrid, Barcelona etc. have invested heavily in new players in preparation for the next season and of course, the Champions League. The arrival of de Ligt in Turin will make the 2020 Champions League even more interesting – and unpredictable, indeed.
