Nigeria may have been to the World Cup six times but that performance does not scare their next opponents Seychelles. The island country’s coach Gavin Jeanne has announced that his team has no fear of Nigeria ahead of the teams’ 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier on Saturday.
While admitting that it is their biggest football match ever he is quite hopeful that anything can still happen.
Jeanne told Brila FM, “Yes, we are very ready and positive about our chances against Nigeria.
“We have prepared well and I hope the players maintain their focus and stick to the plan. We have enjoyed a good build-up to the game. It’s our biggest football match in history.
“We have tested ourselves enough from our participation it the COSAFA Cup till now. I hope it goes well and we make a positive impact.”
The teams will meet in a Group E clash at Stade Linite in Victoria this Saturday, with both looking to bounce back from opening defeats last year. Seychelles suffered a 5-1 thrashing away to Libya while the Super Eagles were shocked 2-0 at home by South Africa.
The Nigerians who are three-time champions are strongly favoured to defeat Seychelles and are assembling a full squad for the game. More than 18 players had arrived in Seychelles by Tuesday afternoon with all of them flying in from Europe except for reserve goalkeeper Austin Ezenwa who plays professionally in Nigeria.
In the other Group E match this weekend South Africa will host Libya in Durban.
