It Takes a Thief to Catch a Thief.
Sometimes, the only way to understand and dismantle a system of retrogression is to have a deep understanding of how it operates. This is the essence of the saying, and it's a principle we must apply to our fight against lies and other social ills, including corruption.
Lies thrive,
become a norm, and soon dominate the public narrative if left unchallenged or
unrefuted. For instance, a single distortion can metastasise into an accepted
truth, embedding itself in the psyche of a people and compelling individuals to
act ingloriously. In this vacuum of truth, accountability withers — and in its
place rises an ecosystem of deceit, power abuse, and systematic injustice. The
time to act is now, before these distortions become the accepted reality.
Nowhere is this
more palpable than in the political arena. Corruption becomes
institutionalised, cloaked in bureaucracy and sanctioned by silence.
Mismanagement of public resources is often excused or downplayed, while
nepotism masquerades as loyalty, and lawlessness is presented as strong
leadership. Incompetence is rebranded as experience, and impunity becomes the
hallmark of power. These vices are not random — they are deliberate acts by
those who have mastered the machinery of governance for personal gain.
The consequences
are brutal. Ordinary citizens are forced to navigate a reality where basic
services are luxuries, opportunities are gatekept, and justice is a myth. The
moral compass of society spins uncontrollably, leaving communities disjointed,
disillusioned, and directionless. People lose faith — not just in politicians,
but in institutions, in progress, and eventually in themselves.
This inhuman
treatment is not just collateral damage — it is the design. And that's why it
must be resisted. Lies must be exposed, not accommodated. Power must be
scrutinised, not worshipped. Injustice must be confronted with relentless
courage, and every concerned citizen, activist, and individual interested in
political accountability and social justice must lead this charge. Your voice
matters, your actions count, even if the opposition is entrenched and ruthless.
To combat the rot, we may need those who understand the game too well— those who've been inside the system or have studied its playbook intimately. Sometimes, it takes a thief to catch a thief — not to perpetuate the crime, but to dismantle it from within. Unless we challenge and debunk those lies and repressive acts, we can hardly restore justice to its rightful place in our societies — a fundamental step toward creating a functional and thriving culture. And it is you, the concerned citizen, activist, and individual, who is crucial in this fight. Be part of the necessary change to come.
